Loyalty over WhatsApp, for businesses worldwide

About Retainx

Last updated: 28 May 2026Effective: 28 May 2026Jurisdiction: India

Retainx exists because the hardest part of running a small business anywhere is not getting a customer through the door once. It is getting them to come back. A restaurant spends on discounts, listings, and delivery commissions to win a first visit, and then has no idea whether that person ever returns. The relationship ends at the bill. We built Retainx to fix that, using the things customers already have: a way to pay and a phone they check.

The problem we kept seeing

Loyalty software has historically been built for large retail chains: expensive, tied to a specific point of sale, and dependent on customers downloading yet another app that they open twice and forget. For a neighbourhood cafe, a two chair salon, or a single corner store, that is not a real option. The owner does not have an IT team. The customer is not going to install an app to collect points. So most small businesses run loyalty on a paper punch card, or not at all.

Meanwhile, two quiet shifts changed the ground rules. Digital payments, from cards to UPI, made every transaction an attributable event. Messaging apps like WhatsApp became the channel customers actually read, with open rates that email and SMS never came close to. Put those together and you can enrol a customer the moment they pay, with zero clicks, and reach them later on a channel they trust. That is the entire idea behind Retainx.

What we believe

We believe loyalty should be measured in returning customers and recovered revenue, not in vanity points. We believe a message is worth sending only if it is specific: it should mention what the customer actually ordered and offer something the merchant can actually afford. We believe customer data belongs to the merchant and the customer, never to us to sell. And we believe software for small businesses should be honest about what it does, which is why our pricing, our refund terms, and our limits are all on the table before you pay a rupee.

Who builds Retainx

Retainx is built by a small team of operators and engineers who have run service businesses and shipped software for them. We have seen first hand how thin the margins are for a restaurant, a salon, or a single store, and how much a single returning customer is worth. That experience is the reason the product exists.

That operator background shapes the product. Retainx is opinionated about margin: every reward the AI suggests respects a ceiling the merchant sets, because a loyalty program that gives away the kitchen is worse than no program at all. The voice of the product is meant to sound like a seasoned restaurant operations consultant who happens to know software, because that is the person a small merchant actually needs in their corner.

How we make money, plainly

We charge merchants a monthly or annual subscription, billed in USD or INR depending on where you are. That is the whole business model. We do not take a cut of your sales, we do not charge your customers, and we do not monetise data. There is a genuinely free plan for up to 50 customers so you can see whether the math works before you pay.

Where we are headed

Retainx works for local businesses anywhere. The same loyalty engine runs across markets by connecting the payment rail you already use, from card terminals to Stripe to UPI, behind one interface. Our focus stays simple: help small businesses bring more of their customers back, and prove it with numbers they can see.
